China-Part 1

WOW! What a great vacation we had to Beijing! I have so many pictures and stories to tell I'm going to break our trip up into 4 different blogs. I have at least 500 pictures so I'm trying to narrow them down too. It was a trip we will never forget....Here we go, a tour of Beijing, China.

Day 1- Arrive in Beijing
We left Singapore around 8:45 am. Kaitlyn did great! Alice, our Chinese tour guide picked us up at the airport and took us to our hotel. We rested up for about an hour and then she picked us back up for dinner. She took us to a famous Peking Duck (roasted duck) restaurant. It was delicious! Kaitlyn loved it too. We also tried jelly fish which was surprisingly good. After dinner we drove around a little bit to look at this city of 18 million people! We headed back to the hotel and put Kaitlyn right to bed since we knew we would be up early the next day.

Day 2-Tiananmen Square/Forbidden City
Alice picked us up at our hotel around 8am and took us to Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City. As we were walking we passed the Performing Arts Center.

Performing Arts Center

We were amazed at the crowds so early! Tiananmen Square is huge just like what you see in the movies and history books. The Forbidden City is absolutely massive. Did you know it was built in the 1420's? We learned so much about how the Emperors lived. The common people were not allowed in and the women inside were not allowed out. It was so interesting seeing this part of history.

Mausoleum at Tiananmen Square with Chairman Mao inside. Thousands of people come to see his body everyday. He was the founder of Communism in China.

The Forbidden City

Inside the Imperial Palace. Kaitlyn was thristy!

So many people! So many steps!

If you look real hard Kaitlyn is in the center of this crowd! Everywhere we went people wanted pictures of her. It was funny! This pictures reminds me of Where's Waldo?

As we were walking back to the car we saw this man riding a bike caring toilet paper! Everyone rode bikes in Beijing.

After touring this site Alice took us to a local Chinese Restaurant. It was very tasty
Each day after lunch we were dropped off at our hotel and on our own. We planned it this way so Kaitlyn could take a nap and we could explore a little on our own. It worked out great! After Kaitlyn rested we walked down the streets enjoying the Beijing breeze. We had dinner at our hotel and called it a night.

Since I have so many pictures, here is a slideshow of our 1st two days.

Kara, I'm so envious yet happy for the experiences you'll one day come back with. Treasure them. I'm sure the experiences are such perspective builders. Lots of love!
