Vietnam Trip

When Terry John's parents were here, he and his father took a trip to Vietnam. Terry is a Vietnam Veteran and he wanted to see what Vietnam looked like 40 years later.

They left Thursday morning and took a 2 hour flight to Ho Chi Minh City. They walked around the city and enjoyed Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup).

Friday morning they took a 45 minute flight to Hue. They took a boat ride along the Perfume River, which runs through Hue. They stopped along the river and looked at a couple of Budhist Temples.

Saturday, they left Hue and drove north towards the former DMZ area. They stopped along the former Ho Chi Minh trail. This is a new bridge that has been built.

This is the slope that over looked the air strip that Terry guarded during the war. They Vietnamese took all the materials from the air strip and now use this area as farm land.

This is the Vinh Moc Tunnel that was used by the North Vietnamese Army and the Vietcong to move supplies from the North to the South via the sea. The tunnel was only about 5 feet tall. Terry John and Terry had to walk hunched over through the tunnel for about 20 minutes.

They toured this area for about 10 hours Saturday.

Sunday, they flew back to Ho Chi Minh City and then onto Singapore.

They had a great trip. Terry really enjoyed seeing where he had fought. He said it looked so different with all the vegetation that had grown. It was a great expierence for both of them.
